TWGC’s Vilma Jurado Lopez shared her knowledge and skills about leaf manipulation presenting a fabulous program to enhance flower arrangements with tricks of the trade. Vilma is also a member of the Texas State Florists Association (TSFA), the Society for the Advancement of Floral Design (SAFD), Far Corners Garden Club, and the Houston Federation of Garden Clubs. She demonstrated several ideas and provided a very helpful handout – timely and inspirational especially with the holidays around the corner.
Plant Study by Sabrina Crooke “Mother of Thousands vs Mother of Millions“: it’s hard not to be fascinated when you first see a Mother of Thousands or Mother of Millions plant (Crassulaceae family). With careful containment, these succulents are a remarkable addition to your garden or houseplant collection making well… thousands of plantlets that take root wherever they fall, but the blooms are spectacular. Sabrina donated one plant of each for the drawing and several plants to the upcoming plant sale.
Horticulture: thanks to Raksha Patel for delighting us with a bowl of super fragrant Night Jasmine (Parijat) flowers, and Betty Lahiri for showcasing a rare Birkin Philodendron.
The October hostesses prepared a delicious (and fun) luncheon and we had a wonderful time socializing.
Sharon Podolski, Mary Barnes and Bitsey Crismon brought samples of crafts for the upcoming sale, and donated several items for the drawing. Congratulations to the winners!
